Factory Engraved Colt 1855 Root 1st Model. Serial number 16. This is one of the extreme rarities in Colt collecting. This is a factory engraved 1st Model Root. Only a handful are known and this is the very best one known according to noted author and Colt expert R.L. Wilson. This gun has about 85% of the original blue on the frame and barrel. Grips are burled walnut. Cylinder scene is perfect, but most of the blue has turned into a dark gray patina. This gun has particularly tightly engraved deluxe scrolls. Good case colors remain on both the hammers and lever. Case is a French fitted velvet interior. Accessories are very fine.
