Description:
This is for an Allen & Thurber Pepperbox percussion revolver.  If functions mechanically and all the nipples are intact.    This antique is sold as a collector’s item and not for firing.    Mechanically, each pull of the trigger rotates the barrels, and the hammer cocks and impacts the nipple.   It functions.  No visible serial numbers until removal of the wooden grips shows a 61 on the frame, and the spring.   Shown as well as we can in the pictures.   The grips are fine walnut, and have a lovely patina, with much of the original finish still present. They have the expected dents and wear from long service.

We are not experts and invite questions and requests for specific pictures.   The buyer will have a 3 day non firing inspection.   Please do your own research and ask questions.

A little history:

The company was known by various names over the years. From 1847 to 1854 it was known as Allen & Thurber (Worcester), so this pistol is from that period, after the patent renewal was granted.    Serial 61 so we don’t know the exact year of production.
Ethan Allen later took into his business another brother-in-law, Thomas Wheelock, and later his two Sons-in-law, Sullivan Forehand and Henry Wadsworth, who continued the business after Ethan Allen's death in 1871. Most interesting that all these names have become an integral part of the U.S. arms industry.   An interesting stepping stone in 19th Century American firearms, ready to add to your collection!
