Description:
Antique DOUBLE BARREL Belgian BOXLOCK Percussion SIDE x SIDE Pocket Pistol

ENGRAVED .40 Caliber Self Defense Muff / Pocket Pistol!

Here we present an engraved antique Liege Proofed Double Barrel Boxlock Percussion Pocket Pistol, made circa the 1840s-50s in Liege, Belgium. This would have likely been intended as a self-defense gun. The grip is solid walnut. The barrel is marked with various proof marks. In a day when the single shot pistol was the standard, this side by side percussion pistol would have been a very handy self-defense weapon to have around, having two shots to fire off instead of one!

This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of London of Paris during the tumultuous times of the mid-1800s. These type pistols are small, light and simple. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the "Saturday Night Specials" of the 16th-18th century. Before the Deringer, they were "Gentleman's" or "Muff Pistols", typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff.

The overall condition is good. The action functions (weak trigger return spring). Good bores (aged). The frame is lightly engraved with traditional floral designs. Liege proofed. Very good grip and remains seated firmly at the frame.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 3-1/8 inches.

Caliber: .40 Percussion

Overall condition as seen in photos.
