Description:
Another “ESTATE” firearm listing brought to you from Dust 2 Dollars who prides themselves on showing the complete gun in high quality pictures along with a detailed description for your consideration.

We offer you a “RARE” Joseph Towl of Boston, Lincolnshire 12 Gauge Double Barrel Pinfire that was converted to Center Fire Shotgun.

Joseph Towl of Boston, Lincolnshire was a gun maker who operated between 1834 and 1868 on Bridge Street. Boston is a market town with a port on the east coast of England in Lincolnshire. Examples of his work are known for their quality and are seldom seen on the market. The shotgun is noted to be from the 1850’s which would make it around 160 years old or so. It shows very fine and detailed engraving, high quality wood with very fine craftsmanship.
It wears 30” Damascus barrels that are marked “JOSEPH TOWL BOSTON” on the rib. They are silver in color with no finish remaining and scattered marks and dings. The bores are frosted with light to medium pitting full length. The forearm is in good condition with no cracks and horn tip. The butt stock is highly figured with no cracks or repairs. The receiver is marked “WILLIAM TOWL” on each side and shows some finish still remaining. At some point this shotgun was converted to center fire as you can see. The hammers are just fine with the half and full cock notches working as they should. The action is tight and the lever has no play in it.
