Description:
S O L D ......NEW PHOTOS..........LAYAWAY?.....58 cal., 40” barrel with a pristine bore. The metal surfaces have aged to a nice even blend of gray and brown patina showing some scattered areas of old light oxidation and perhaps a light handling mark or two from the years. The metal markings are correct and very crisp, the small Federal Eagle on the bolster is slightly softened yet perfectly clear, with “M.L.H.” inspection initials on the left breech flat along with “STEEL” and both the breech and lockplate are dated 1863. The American black walnut stock rates very good plus to perhaps fine with a few small chips and dings along the wood line, ramrod channel and action and the expected overall handling marks from military service. The stock flats retain nice definition and there are two identical crisp cartouches on the left flat and inspection initials just ahead of the buttplate. The original sights, swivels and cupped tulip-head ramrod with threaded end are intact and the action is strong and crisp.
