Description:
This is a Frankford Arsenal heavy brass mold for making .30 caliber (.376 inch diameter lead balls) to hand load the .30-40 Krag government rifle for Gallery Practice. This is a five-cavity mold with wood handles and thick brass jaws labeled “FRANKFORD ARSENAL / 1899 / CAL. 30 / .376 / C.L'H.R." on the top face opposite the sprue cutter side. Each handle is numbered “46" which is a a serial or control number as these were sent out to specific installations that needed to use indoor or close range Gallery Practice bullets. The mold is pictured on pages 182 and 183 in the 2nd edition of The Krag Rifle Story by Mallory and Olson. The mold is in excellent condition and comes with the original waterproof wrap material. An interesting piece of Krag history and a rare item for the reloading collector.
