                                                                             RARE HENRY DERRINGER U.S. CONTRACT MODEL1844 DATED FLINTLOCK COMMON RIFLE

Manufactured as part a U.S. contract
held by Henry Deringer of pocket pistol fame Cal. 52. NSN. Bbl. 36", rifled w/ 7 grooves, stamped "US" & w/ "P" proof at breech end & w/ "NWP" inspector's initials. Tang dated "1844" Lock w/ "US", "DERRINGER" "PHILA" markings is dated 1844 on tail  Iron mounted & banded on stock appears to be of oak & has inspector's marks "WEF" (?) & another indecipherable on left side opposite lock. Stock is fitted w/ patch box having oval steel hinged cover. CONDITION: bbl. w/ traces of original brown. Lockplate also w/ traces of color hardening. Lock is operable. Good bore , rifling strong. He manufactured 13,000 of these rifles in multiple variations between 1817 and the early 1840s, These arms are among the first widely issued rifled firearms used by any military and saw plenty of use in the Civil War. An excellent addition to any CW or Historic Firearm collection made by one of the planet's Premier gun Manufacturers.
