Description:
SOLD.............  Ron Nott was a friend and award-winning master engraver. Ron has done guns on commission from Colts' but preferred private commissions, they paid much better.  A man with artistic abilities who was self-taught the art of firearms engraving. A remarkable achievement.
In my opinion his forte was scrollwork. Ron told me his schoolbooks and papers were always decorated with floral scrollwork, certainly the way he developed his style. Ron passed about 10 years ago, and this revolver embodies some of his best work.
This first-generation Colt left the factory c.1906. Ron fancied it up, perhaps 100 years later. He signed it on the left bolster “R.P. Nott”, it’s very small but I did get a photo. Every part of this revolver has tasteful engraving with panels and bands of Gold inlay generously applied. The Ivory grips complement the Blue and Gold very well.
I found Rons’ demonstration of gold inlaying most interesting. He would gouge a dovetailed shape line in the steel. The line was wider at the bottom than at the top, a thin gold wire was laid into this trench. The wire was big enough to protrude above the surface, it was then hammered (in-laid) down into the trench and be retained by the dovetail shape.
This revolver is offered in its’ French fitted Colt case, that has protected it for many years.  There is a tiny scratch on the backstrap, perhaps caused by the previous owners ring. The bore is a bit rough, not that it matters one bit. In all other ways it is in perfect condition, a beautiful representation of the engravers Art. .38 WCF Cal with a 4 ¾” Barrel. Serial Number 286275. FFL or C&R Required.
