AWESOME CIVIL WAR SPENCER CAVALRY CARBINE
The Brilliant Christopher Miner Spencer was one of those 19th century Edisonian inventors who could successfully turn his hand at just about whatever caught his fancy at the time. As early as 1861 he was tooling back and forth from Manchester to Hartford, CT, in a steam buggy of his own design-until the locals decided that the dang contraption just made too much noise. During his lifetime, Spencer was responsible for a bunch of patents, including an early pump shotgun. But it was the innovative and remarkable Spencer repeating rifle that really established his name, that and the fact he received the endorsement of Abraham Lincoln himself after testing this magnificent carbine. His seminal design was simply ground breaking and the best firearm of its type for years to come. This wonderful weapon presents in Cal. 56-50. S# 8878. Bbl. 22" carbine style w/ high barleycorn front sight & graduated leaf rear sight. Action is fitted w/ Stabler cutout & has cavalry saddle ring & bar on left side. Band fastened walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ inletted swivel & steel buttplate. 7 Rd. tubular mag. inserts through buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: spare mag. tube. The metal has oxidized to an attractive smooth gray. Forearm has handsome dark finish looking very good combined with gray. Forearm band has case colored finish. Stock has expected wartime handling marks and Both mag. tubes are intact. A fine example of a truly brilliant designed carbine that without exaggeration changed the war and firearms forever.
