Description:
General Specs: Winchester, Year 1925, .44-40 Caliber, 5lb 15oz
Serial Number: 220

Here we have a very special, hard-to-find Winchester Model 53 rifle with several special-order features.  The Model 53 was only made between 1924 to 1932, and the predominant caliber was .25-20, second most popular the .32-20.  Only a small percentage were made in the most desirable .44 W.C.F caliber.  Of the 25,000 or produced, only about 4800 were takedown models.  The Model 53 came standard with a 22” barrel, shotgun butt, and short mag tube with a capacity of 6 rounds.  The Model 53 had its own serial number set, and this gun, serial number 220, was made in the first year of production with the special-order features of takedown action, crescent buttplate, and as was usual with Winchester special-order rifles, the wood was upgraded to VERY nicely figured wood.  The gun is in extraordinary mechanical condition, with a mirror bright bore with perfect rifling and no pitting anywhere.  The barrel and mag tube retain 99% factory blue with sharp lettering and stamps.  The action retains 85% factory blue with no flaking, screws are original and in excellent condition.  The bolt and loading gate are a strong 99% factory blue, the lever and hammer about 95% blue.  The wood is in excellent condition for a 97-year-old gun, with an oil finish showing some drying and pore exposure, no chips or cracks.  The figure is far beyond the normal upgrade when a special-order gun is assembled, with strong fiddleback figure on both sides of the stock.  The special-order crescent steel buttplate retains 98% factory blue with no real dings or marks.  THE COMBINATION OF A 3 DIGIT SERIAL NUMBER, PERFECT BORE, LARGE CALIBER, SPECIAL ORDER TAKEDOWN ACTION, CRESCENT STEEL BUTTPLATE, NICELY FIGURED WOOD, AND UNTOUCHED FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITIION MAKES THIS A VERY SPECIAL, COLLECTIBLE, INVESTMENT GRADE WINCHESTER RIFLE.  I tried to find a comparable rifle on the internet, either in past sales or presently, and this is a one and only.  With all the features noted above I think you could consider this a very rare find and a very special Winchester.  Priced accordingly but affordable, don’t let this one get away!  Somebody will note its value and buy this one quickly I do believe.  Thanks for looking!
