Description:
FOX STUDIO MOVIE PROP ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL M1903 .30-06 MILITARY Rifle C&R

c1910 mfr US WWI-era Infantry Rifle

Here we present a U.S. Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 Rifle, manufactured circa 1910 at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois, property marked by Fox Studios as a movie prop.

This model rifle had a production run from 1903 through 1949 with over 3,000,000 produced. The M1903 Springfield, formally the United States Rifle, is an American five-round magazine fed, bolt-action service repeating rifle, used primarily during the first half of the 20th century. It was officially adopted as a United States military bolt-action rifle on June 19, 1903, and saw service in World War I. It was officially replaced as the standard infantry rifle by the faster-firing semi-automatic eight-round M1 Garand starting in 1936. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a standard issue infantry rifle during World War II since the U.S. entered the war without sufficient M1 rifles to arm all troops. It also remained in service as a sniper rifle from 1936 through 1975, which included World War II, the Korean War, and even in the Vietnam War. It still remains popular as a civilian firearm, historical collector's piece, a competitive shooting rifle, and as a military drill rifle.

This movie prop musket is marked “S-80” and “Fox Studio” on the receiver and was almost certainly used in Twentieth Century Fox/Fox Studios American World War II movies.

The overall condition is Very Good. Strong action. The bore is bright and nicely rifled. Solid stock with average wear (missing the buttstock sling swivel). “12-18” dated barrel. “Circle/P” is stamped behind the trigger guard. The magazine assembly is absent along with the foremost barrel band. A neat piece with a dual history!

This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic.

Barrel is 24 inches in length.
