The 1st type is marked on the breach block with 1870 US only and used the 1863 marked lock plate. The rear sight base almost touches the short action used on this model and is unique to the 1st type. The rifle is chambered in 50-70 government amd the bore of this rifle is clean and bright showing strong rifling. The wood shows typical dings and dents associated with a military rifle of this period but there are no cracks or structural issues. The action is strong and works as designed.
