The Smith Carbine was issued to various Cavalry units during the Civil War. This fine example presents as Cal. 50. S# 1478. Bbl. 22" standard configuration, scarcer early production mfg. by MASS ARMS / CHICOPEE FALLS” & so marked on frame along w/ ADDRESS / POULTNEY & TRIMBLE / BALTIMORE, USA” and SMITH™S PATENT / JUNE 23, 1857”. CONDITION: very good to fine overall. Complete & original, metal has attractive smooth gray/bluish patina, markings crisp, stock has old varnish finish & no visible cartouche, militia rack markings 15 / K / 45” stamped on left side of butt. Mechanically fine w/ bright shiny bore. An Early Fine example of an Important Cavalry weapon used in the war to form us into the United States. This Beauty will make for a envious display now and a wonderful Legacy piece for your Heirs. Your Grandchildren will thank you.
