Description:
A different type of revolver, one of about 10,000 made during the Civil War era of 1863-1864. This one, serial # 1081 ( a fairly low number) was made in 1863.
In excellent condition with traces of the silver plateing on the frame and traces of blueing on the barrel and about 70% on the cylinder. The hammer and trigger retain most of the original blue finish. The grips are in excellent condition with just a few minor marks and no splits or cracks. The action is strong and the cylinder revolves properly when the hammer is cocked. The barrel top is marked"B.A.Co., Patent April 14th, 1863. The frame sides and top and grip areas are engraved. In addition, under the cylinder the frame forward from the trigger is nicely inscribed withn the name" F.D.Taylor", presumably the original owner .Research might reveal an interesting story about Mr. Taylor. There is a unique sliding sleeve cylinder loading system.
A copy of the original two page instruction sheet will be included. This is offered as a collectible item, not to be fired unless your gunsmith says it is safe to do so
This is called the Slokum Revolver as it was designed by Frank P. Slokum of Brooklyn, New York.
