Colt SAA Texas gun, 75% nickel gun, Cal. 45, with a good bore 5 ½” barrel, Manufactured in Hartford Connecticut in 1891 on top of the barrel one line Colt address on the side of the frame is three line patent address on the trigger guard is 44 Cal and E. Comes with two piece eagle hard rubber grips are in very good condition. Mechanically in good condition with a tight cylinder lockup in single action this is an all matching serial number gun there is no serial number on the barrel or cylinder which is correct for this gun This gun was shipped in 1891. Comes with a factory letter this gun was shipped to J.C. Petmecky in Austin, Texas in August 1, 1891 in a 6 gun Shipment. Serial number 752XX
This Colt single action was carried and used daily on a large ranch in Riley, Texas by Frank Fox he was born in Switzerland and immigrated to the US. He presumably purchased the gun from J.C. Petmecky, a large store in Austin, Texas in 1892 are so. He was killed by lightning while riding his horse on the range and was believed carrying the gun at the time. His death was prior to 1913, according to his niece, Mrs. John Green (her name is John) of Shamrock, Texas. Her Uncle was killed brfore she was born and it was her mothers brother. She was 84 years old when the gun was purchased by me from her in 1997. He was buried in Morris, Texas.
