Description:
On Hold Sale Pending. US flintlock model 1816 musket made by M. T. Wickham of Philadelphia Pennsylvania used by the Sussex Brigade from New Jersey.  Mr. Wickham had served as the inspector of contract arms at the national armory between 1811 and 1816. Upon resigning in 1816 he went into private business and received his first contract to deliver 4000 muskets.  In 1822 he received his second contract for 5000 arms, and eventually produced more than 20,000 muskets.  This one was probably in the first or second contract.  This musket went to the state of New Jersey and was used by the Sussex Brigade. The Sussex Brigade was mustered into service in 1768 and continued thru the US Civil War. The lock is marked M. T. Wickham Phil's and functions fine. The very good walnut stock has a cartouche on the left flat and twice marked Sussex Brigade underneath in front of and behinde the trigger guard.  The stock also has a repaired chip on the left side of the tang.  The full length 42" barrel and all metal parts have a light brown patina, This 200 year old musket appears complete with sling swivels and ramrod.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Shipping will be actual cost approximately 75.00 by usps priority insured mail. On Hold Sale Pending.
