LONG DISCONTINUED THOMPSON-CENTER SPECIAL RUN HAWKEN COUGAR HALF-STOCK RIFLE IN .50 CALIBER PERCUSSION, WITH ORIGINAL BOX, #2XXX. I believe T-C did two special runs of these upgraded Hawken rifles- one in 1987 and one in 1992. They were made only in .45 and .50 caliber- and featured stainless steel parts (instead of brass in the standard model), have fancy walnut stocks and have a round medallion in the stock with a cougar embossed in it. This rifle comes with the original matching numbered box which states on the end, "HAWKEN COUGAR, A PRESENTATION CAP LOCK MUZZLE LOADING RIFLE, 'STAINLESS STEEL,' Featuring the Finest of Hand Selected Walnut." This rifle appears unfired and has particularly fancy walnut. It also has a hooked breech for easy barrel removal, double set triggers, fully adjustable sights and a coil spring lock (as printed on the box cover). The best part is that these T-C traditional muzzle loaders were made entirely in the U.S.A. The 1 in 48" twist rate of the rifling makes it suitable for either patched round ball use or loaded with a "Maxie" bullet with a heavy charge of black powder to duplicate the power of the big buffalo cartridges of the 1870s. It's a shame T-C doesn't still make these! rd to find with such fine walnut and new in the box.
