CLASSIC INDIAN WARS 1879 TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD .45-70 RIFLE, #264XXX, MADE C.1884. This one has a bright and excellent bore with standard Model 1879 rear sight with original slotless screws. The stock retains a fairly good cartouche dated 1884 with a lighter circle P firing proof behind the lower tang. The top of the stock by the butt plate and on the top of the U.S. marked butt plate show some typical rack number stampings. Good U.S. and Eagle motif on the lock plate, 1873 dated breech block. Looks like the barrel was cleaned at some time and is now a slivery gray. Fine solid stock with sling swivels intact. These are still a bargain, although prices seem to be escalating on Trapdoors and they are not seen as frequently as in the past.
