U.S. Army 1880’s Indian Wars Kepi with III Corps Badge
This is an original U.S. Army 1880’s Indian Wars Kepi with a Red Velvet Diamond III Corps Badge stitched on the top. It dates back to the 1880's, but it is identical in style to the kepis used late in the Civil War. The Kepi has the Eagle buttons on each side. It has a nice leather chin strap that is completely intact. The outside of the kepi is in excellent shape, with one pin hole on the top around the crown and one in the back. The navy blue fabric is in outstanding shape with no stains. The peak is in very good shape, with minor crazing, but it is very sturdy. The lining is in excellent condition and is complete and strong. The sweat band is intact with two small tars and is marked 7-1/4. The maker label is inside the hat “FINE HATS / KAUFMANN’S / THE BIG STORE / PITTSBURG”.
