Description:
This is an original U.S. Civil War Surgeon’s combination saw and knife used for quick amputations on the battlefield. The Civil War Collectors encyclopedia states that these saws were used by surgeons as amputation tools. This example is marked SARGENT & Co. It is very rare to see a Sargent & Co. saw. The markings on the blade are very light. The saw in nice untouched condition with light rusted on the blade and no cracks to the handle.  It has an 11-1/4 inch blade, with no broken or missing teeth.  This is an interesting and Rare saw. An original circa 1860 Civil War Surgeon’s field knife used for quick amputations on the battlefield.  The piece measures 16-1/2 inches in length and has a thick hard wood handle that is comfortable for gripping along with a long thin saw tooth blade made for easy cutting through flesh, muscle, and bone. This is truly a unique Early American Civil War or Indian Wars collector’s piece.
