Description: Hammerguns - Due to excellent marketing the most famous and well known sliding breech guns were built by Darne in France. I always appreciated the unique way of loading the barrels but always found the Darne built guns to be hard to operate. I learned to properly operate a Darne one needs to be very assertive with it when opening. As another way to put it, to open a Darne, one needs to really "horse" it. There were other sliding breech makers besides Darne like the one we offer today by Charlin. Charlin did not build near as many sliding breech guns but in my opinion, they built the best. The Charlin guns you do not need to "Horse" as they operate as smooth as silk. When I first heard about the Charlin guns over thirty years ago I was told that the Charlin guns were so smooth because they incorporated small ball bearings in the slide. This always made sense to me until a gunsmith told me once he had a Charlin apart and that he found no ball bearings in the gun! This Charlin we offer today is in wonderful condition. The case colors appear original and are excellent as well as the bores. If you have always wanted a classic sliding breech gun this is a rare opportunity to own what many of us consider the very best ever made. *** Note: To see this gun with high resolution photos and a zoom-in feature, go to the vintagedoubles main site and search for the gun ID: 4612 or browse the main site to see our full gun collection. |
