Description:
This is a rare Flues NIHG (New Ithaca Hammer Gun) in “B” grade made in 1915. (Hammer guns were graded, X, AA, A, B, C, & D – in ascending order. While hammerless guns had number grades. So, a “B” grade hammer gun was the same quality level as grade “2” hammerless gun.) It has 30” Krupp steel barrels bored full & full and is in very good condition. It is mechanically excellent and locks up tight as new. No case colors remain except in hidden locations but the metal is clean with sharp engraving. Barrel blue is very good and have no dents. The bores are bright and clean but some pitting – yet are highly shootable. The well figured walnut stock is in especially nice condition with good original checkering and original Ithaca flying bird HRBP. Serial number 285976. Weight – 6 lbs. 10 oz, LOP – 14”, DC – 2” & DH – 3”. This gun is also know as New Two Bolt Hammer Gun – see detail below.
The Flues “New Two Bolt Hammer” model (NTBH) was made briefly from 1913-16 in 10, 12, and 16 gauge in grades X, A, AA, B, C, D & E. It was made on the Flues action with coil springs. The “Two Bolt” feature refers to the fact that it had a single “under bolt” and a “top bolt” on the rib extension. Previous Ithaca hammer guns had a single locking bolt. The New Two Bolt Hammer model was only listed in the Ithaca 1915 catalog. It did not appear to be a good seller. The number of this model made is apparently unknown, but they are very scarce and rare in graded guns.
