Description:
Offering up a ultra-rare Winchester Model 71 Standard Carbine w/20" barrel, caliber 348 WCF, serial #23XXX, made 1946. This carbine is unaltered and original, except for an area on the upper right side of receiver in which the blueing was blotched and lightly corroded from blood contact. I cleaned the area up and cold-blued it. There is no pitting. The bore is perfect and rest of blue is near 100%. The front sight hood is missing, and was obviously removed when the gun was new. The stocks are excellent with only a couple compression chips missing around the buttplate, very common on Winchesters of that time frame.Screws are all nice. This pre-war/ post-war transition carbine has the early checkered pre-war hammer and pre-war style barrel. According to a an analysis and study done by Bert Hartman on the 71's, only about 850 standard carbines were produced, comprising less than 2% of total production! Over 3,400 deluxe carbines were made, making the standard version the rarest of variations. In 60 years of collecting and trading vintage Winchesters, it is the only one I ever encountered. Shipping only to the lower 48 and Alaska. Shipping to Alaska will be extra!
