Description:
This Weatherby Mark V Synthetic is chambered in Weatherby's flat shooting and powerful .270 Weatherby Magnum cartridge. The Mark V line is Weatherby's premium grade rifles and the Mark V Synthetic is branded as the economical Mark V. Weatherby is notable for their bolt-action operating systems–a modified Model 54 action–which is an early 20th century design for centerfire cartridges. Weatherby's Mark V's bolt body is designed with nine lugs that secure the bolt firmly into the receiver. With more lugs, or wider lugs, the bolt requires a short 54-degree lift for full rotation and chambering. Weatherby also strengthened the bolt body by milling it from a single piece of steel, so it can withstand more powerful cartridges. The Synthetic features a lightweight Monte Carlo synthetic stock and fore-end, both of which are checkered. In addition, the Mark V Synthetic has a steel barrel and receiver with a low luster matte bead-blasted blue finish. The Mark V Synthetic is equipped with a fully adjustable trigger that is initially factory-tuned to 3.5 pounds. Its bolt has a fluted body, which reduces surface area in turn weight. The Mark V Synthetic also has a cocking indicator that visually indicates whether or not the rifle is cocked and a recoil pad. This Mark V was made in Japan in the mid-1990s and is in very good condition. The bluing on the action and barrel is almost complete with a little bit of loss of bluing at the crown and about 5" down the barrel on the left side. See photos. The rifling is excellent and, with the addition of a scope, this would make a long range western deer and elk gun. .270 Weatherby Magnum
