Payment Types Accepted: Visa,Master Card, Discover,Check Description: Antique U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1896 Krag Carbine chambered in .30-40 Krag. This original Krag Carbine is in excellent mechanical condition and has a nice honest look about it. The 1896 carbine has a total of seven differences from the 1896 Rifle and are as follows; a 22" barrel, a half-stock, one barrel band, no butt swivel, a swivel bar and ring, a band spring, and a sectional cleaning rod stored in the stock. This particular 1896 Krag Carbine is in all original (not a shortened rifle) besides the rear sight slide and ladder which have the higher graduations for the 1896 Krag Rifle, however, the sight base is the correct "C" marked carbine base. The slide could easily be replaced to make this original carbine 100% correct. The metal components of this carbine have lost their original blue finish but have developed a very nice patina over the years. The original carbine stock is in excellent condition for its age and has had one repair made to it on the right side of the top tang. The "JLA 1897" inspector cartouche and "P" proof marking are still more than visible. The stock also has "TROOP F (or possible E) 5th CAVALRY" stamped onto the left side and it matches the wear and script of the rest of the carbine. Unfortunately, we do not have any provenance with the carbine but it more than likely has a vast and unique background. The bore of this particular carbine is in great condition for its age, with light frosting and surface pitting near the muzzle, but visible rifling the whole length of the barrel. All the mechanical aspects of this carbine function 100% and the action locks up tight. Don't miss your opportunity to add this neat piece of U.S. Military history to your collection!
