***INCREDIBLE GERMANIC-STYLE ENGRAVING***
Smith & Wesson K-38 Masterpiece double-action revolver in .38 Special. 6" barrel pinned and ribbed barrel. Patridge front sight, micrometer adjustable rear. Jeweled hammer and trigger. Fluted 6-shot cylinder.
Here's what we know: according to the serial number and the Supica/Nahas book this was built in 1958 and it carries German (Ulm) proof marks on the frame and barrel that began in 1952. This comes to us from a very neat collection but there is no story or provenance to its history. We cannot find a engravers signature or anything other than it's German connection and Germanic-style engraving. The engraving is simply jaw dropping and easily the most engraved revolver we've ever seen, truly a masterpiece by someone. Along with silver game inlays of a bear and what looks to be a mule deer, the oak leaf engraving pattern covers the revolver except for the extractor plunger, the factory ribbed front strap, rear strap and top of the barrel rib.
This pistol is mechanically excellent and looks to have only been lightly handled and shot, if that. The bore is shiny and lockup crisp with excellent action timing. The grips were a later replacement but are very fitting for piece. The velvet-lined display case is fit very well and shows light handling marks externally.
