Description:
SOLD Purdey BSLE 12 gauge SxS. This “best” sidelock shotgun which was made in 1911 and remains in amazingly fine original condition.
The 29 ½” Sir James Whitworth chopper lump barrels have 2 ¾” chambers and are nitro proofed at 1 ¼ oz., choked .027” (IM) & .039” (XF). The Right bore is .736” with minimum wall thickness of .024”. The Left bore is .732” with minimum walls of .030”. The barrel finish appears to be original black.
The finely engraved receiver is covered with about 90% original case colors.
The handsomely grained straight grip stock has a 14 3/8” LOP over a full leather 1” recoil pad with 1 ½” DAC and 2 3/8” DAH with significant right hand cast of 3/8” at the heel and ½” at the toe. Splinter forearm with Anson release. Both the stock and forearm are finely checkered. The finish appears to be original and in very good condition.
Other features: Assisted opening (self-opener), double triggers with articulated front trigger, ejectors and automatic safety.
Overall, this is a very fine example of a BSLE Purdey that is mechanically excellent with beautiful/bright bores, great dimensions and ready for the field and/or vintage sporting.
