Mid-19th Century Antique European Double Barrel OVER/UNDER PERCUSSION Pistol
Large Martial Type Pistol with Captive Ramrod
Here we present an antique European Double Barrel, Over-Under Percussion Fighting Pistol, made circa the 1850s. It features dual triggers and two separate percussion bolsters, one for each barrel, as compared to a rotating barrel. The integrated ramrod fits neatly under the bottom barrel. There is a cap trap in the pommel cap of the grip. This is a large pistol, meant for a martial purpose. The rifled bores are .54 caliber from land to land. In a time when single shot pistols prevailed, this could have given the user an upper hand.
The overall condition is very good. Gray/brown patina with good twist pattern remaining on the barrels. The actions are strong. The bores are patinaed and well-rifled. The stock is solid with some chipping around the left lock. A hefty double-barreled pistol!
