A Very Early & Desirable U.S. Civil War Military Issued Ames Model 1849 Rifleman's Knife Dated 1849 In Fine And Untouched Condition. All original and complete. It has a fine blade with nice markings. It is marked on one side of the ricasso, "AMES MFG. CO./CABOTVILLE/1849" and "US/WD" on the other side. The brass cross guard is nice throughout and is U.S. Inspected "W.D." and "J.W.R." on the edge. The original wood handle is nice throughout with some letters and numbers stamped on it during its early use. These could be military markings. The leather scabbard and brass fittings are also fine and untouched. There is a U.S. Sub Inspectors Mark on the button of the top mount. The knife has a very even and untouched look throughout it. This Is A Fine Example Of A Scarce U.S. Military Issued Ames Model 1849 Rifleman's Knife That Was Made In 1849!
