Description:
Antique CIVIL WAR Era 3rd Model COLT DRAGOON .44 Cal. PERCUSSION Revolver

Made in 1860, One of 10,500 Third Models

Here we present an antique Colt 3rd Model Dragoon Revolver, manufactured in 1860 in Hartford, Connecticut. Only 10,500 of this model were produced. The Third Model was first offered in 1851 and continued production through 1861, for a total of 10,500. The revolver is in .44 caliber, weighs 4 pounds and 2 ounces and has a part round and part octagonal barrel. The main difference between a Second and Third Model Dragoon is the change from a square-back trigger-guard to a rounded version. The barrel and cylinder were blued with casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever. The revolver was furnished with one-piece walnut grips which were varnished for the commercial market and oil-stained for the military contracts.

Colt’s Dragoons experienced some of the harshest conditions the mid-19th century had to offer, and it is amazing that any survived, in any condition. This pistol was designed for use by horse-mounted rifleman, and it is so much pistol that you will want a horse to carry it for you because of its significant weight. This one would have seen use during the American Civil War. This is a great opportunity to add one of Samuel Colt’s most recognized inventions to your collection, a Civil War era Colt Dragoon!

This Dragoon has been there and done that. It is quite worn externally. The action remains strong. The bore is dim with thin but visible rifling. The visible numbers are on the barrel, rammer, frame, and trigger guard, and those all match. The grip is an old replacement. A battleworn example of one of Samuel Colt’s most famous inventions!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 8 inches.

Caliber: .44 Percussion
