Description:
"

Connecticut State Militia Peabody rifle, circa 1871 to 1896. Connecticut bought 2,000 .43 Spanish caliber Peabody rifles from the Providence Tool Company in 1871-72. In 1877, they were returned to Providence Tool Company for refurbishment and replace barrel with .45-70 caliber. They continued in use until 1896. Overall length is 52". The 33" round barrel has a fine bore. Metal is an even smooth brown patina. The cleaning rod is absent. Stock are very good with no cracks or chips, with the expected dents of an issued gun. The rear sight-leaf has a Vernier adjustment screw. Top wrist has a rack number disc with “32" at the rear of the action. The sling swivel plate on the lower butt is correctly stamped “Conn/ 119". Action functions correctly. Many of these were later altered by Bannerman to cadet size with 30" barrels. Don’t miss this original 33" barrel Connecticut State Militia Peabody rifle. They are rarely encountered today.
