"U.S. Springfield Model 1851 Cadet musket. Rare Springfield Model 1851 Cadet musket. Only 4,000 of these were made from 1851-1853. These were sent to various military schools, most notably VMI, who used these during the Battle of New Market. This 1851 is a rifled variation. In 1857, 341 cadet muskets were rifled and fitted with long range sights. Rifle is in fine condition. Stock shows handling wear. Lock and barrel are dated 1853. Metal has a gray patina finish. Overall a very fine cadet musket.
