Description:
EXTREMELY RARE FACTORY NICKEL FINISHED BISLEY, .45 COLT CALIBER WITH 7 1/2" BARREL, FACTORY LETTER, #209XXX, MADE 1901. Almost the total production of Bisley Models was made with blue finish and in 4 3/4" or 5 1/2" barrels with .32-20 being the most produced caliber with .38-40 the second most produced. Long barrel .45s are scarce and one with nickel finish almost never seen. The Colt factory letter confirms caliber, barrel length and shows it was shipped to Colts largest distributor M. Hartley & Company, New York, New York on June 14, 1901. This revolver was obviously holstered and carried, but well taken care of. The major wear to the nickel is on the cylinder where nickel remains in parts of the flutes and slight amounts elsewhere with the balance flaked/worn to an uncleaned brown. The barrel shows good nickel on the portion around the front sight, a little by the frame juncture etc. with the balance like the cylinder. The ejector housing retains fine nickel as does the bottom of the frame and trigger guard, the top strap, around the recoil shield, lower frame, the butt etc- as shown in the photos. The action is fine with the first small "safety" notch holding, but weak. The cylinder locks up fine and the bore is excellent. The grips fit perfectly and show light wear with one surface "flake" at the bottom of the right panel. Overall, an honestly used and supremely rare Bisley that considering caliber, barrel length and nickel finish probably makes this one of only a small handful ever manufactured by Colt.
