Description:
Serial #A8415, 7mm Mauser, 29" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is one of the first batch of 10,000 Ludwig Loewe marked, Mauser rifles purchased by the South African Republic (ZAR) in 1896. The metal retains 75-80% of the original blue, with a mellow plum-brown patina on the balance, as well as silvering along the high and exposed edges. Some bright metal remains on the non-matching, but correct bolt, and traces of original fire blue remains on the bolt latch and magazine follower. The stock has an added oil finish over minor handling marks and surface blemishes throughout. A previous owner has carved his initials in Boer fashion on the right side of the stock: "AJ". The rifle comes with an unnumbered cleaning rod. This is a very good-fine example of a rare Boer rifle, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Antique
