Sold...An extraordinary high condition Model 1885 Single Shot rifle serial # 784, 45 Express (45-125) 30 inch octagon #3 barrel. High wall thick side action with large variation Swiss butt plate (nickel plated) graduated peep tang sight, globe drift front sight, single set trigger. The condition of this rifle is immaculate, 98%+ of the original vivid case colors remain on the action, lever, hammer, upper and lower tangs. 99%+ of the original bright barrel blueing remains. This original factory finish is simply stunning. The rifle appears to have never been fired after leaving the factory. The face of the hammer has 100% of its case colors and has no impact marks or wear from striking the firing pin. The bore and chamber are as new, shiny as a mirror with stunning lands and grooves.There is one stress crack on the fore arm right side front that appears to have been glued years back. There are some hairline stress fractures also on the butt stock, one on each side coming off the action, they are tight and appear stable. The muzzle is marked "36" and also under the forearm, this denotes "1 in 36 inch twist rate" the only caliber that ever had this twist rate in a 1885 single shot rifle is the 45 Express, a rare marking indeed. I contacted Cody Museum Records, the ledger for serial # 784 is blank with no information available. A picture is included of this record search. The rarity and condition of this Model 1885 45 Express rifle is in a league with the best and most beautiful firearms produced at Winchester Repeating Arms Co. A rifle for the advanced Winchester collector and a 1885 High Wall that would be almost impossible to upgrade.
