This is a very handsome World War 2 Ithaca Model 1911A1 manufactured in late 1943 to early 1944 for the U.S. Military. The Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol (and 1911A1) is likely the most famous and well-known U.S. Military handgun ever issued, used from WW1 all the way thru WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. A near-perfect design from the start, the 1911 pistol quickly proved to be extremely durable, reliable, powerful, and accurate, all VERY important characteristics of a combat sidearm. This particular 1911 is an Ithaca 1911A1 model in excellent condition overall, but has been thru a post-war rework at Rock Island Arsenal per the "R.I.A." stamp on the right side of the frame All of the factory markings are crisp, clear, and fully-legible, as-are the U.S. Military inspector's initials of "F.J.A.". The only marking on the gun that is faint and not fully visible is the U.S. Ordnance wheel cartouche on the right rear of the frame to the rear of the right grip panel, a marking that was frequently lightly-struck at the factory regardless of the maker. The proper factory-blued High Standard barrel in this pistol is in great shape. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny with sharp rifling throughout. There is no pitting visible, nor is there any visible erosion from use. The original Keyes Fibre Co. U.S.G.I. grips on this Ithaca are in great shape, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/wear. The grip panels match each other perfectly in color and condition, with sharp checkering and only minor handling marks visible under close inspection. Both grip panels are marked with the Keyes Fibre Company logo of a star with a "K" in it and the number "15", the mold number at the Keyes factory. The action on this Ithaca 1911A1 is smooth and slick, and the frame-to-slide fitment is excellent without any excessive play in it. All of the controls on this Ithaca are in perfect working order and it should operate just as well today as the day it left the factory almost 80 years ago. This Ithaca comes with 2 modern U.S.G.I. contract 7-round magazine in excellent condition with a strong follower spring and clean feed lips. As well as box and paperwork. If you have been looking for a handsome WW2 U.S. Military 1911A1 for your collection that you can enjoy as both a collectible and shooter, this 1944 Ithaca would be an excellent choice.
