Description:
This is a 1954 rifle chambered in .375 H&H Magnum. The action, barrel and stock are all original and in excellent condition with matching numbers on the factory-engraved bolt and factory-stamped receiver. The stock of the rifle is in excellent condition and retains it original factory finish. No nicks or cracks in the stock. The hand-cut checkering, as Winchester applied to its pre-64 Model 70 rifles in the 1950s, is apparent. The stock has not been shortened and retains its original factory recoil pad, which has no cracks and minimal signs of wear. I have been told from the last owner that the metal had been professionally restored by Art's Gun Shop, but I do not have the provenance. In any case, the barrel has a bright blue finish with no pitting.
The bore of the barrel is nearly perfect - bright with strong rifling with no pits, no throat erosion and no evidence of wear, fouling or heat damage.
As a post-war Pre-64, the rifle has the correctly tapered oval receiver tang and a non-recessed rear bridge with factory drilled and tapped action for a scope. This rifles also have the dog-leg shaped safety lever.
Rifle has minor blemishes from normal handling and use. Overall, excellent example of America's Rifleman's Rifle, and would make a fine addition to a home collection or your next safari. More pictures available upon request.
