First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver in .38-40 WCF, manufactured in 1903 in Hartford, Connecticut.
This gun shipped to George Tritch Hardware Company of Denver, Colorado on November 9, 1903. George Tritch Hardware Co. was in operation from 1886 to 1930. The Denver Library has their records. I don't know if they kept records of what gun was sold to who, but it would be cool to find out if possible. This gun looks like it road on the prairie for some time in some gunfighters holster.
The overall condition is solid. Has nice patina. Looks like the front sight was filed down at some point (mabey by a gunfighter) Also someone has dovetailed in some steel by the end of the barrel I suppose because the screw hole was stripped out for the ejector housing. I don't know much about these guns, but I don't think this was ever done by the factory. Someone also was banging on the side of the gun for some reason or using it as a hammer but it is totally operational and has all 4 clicks as it should. I have shot this gun with lite cowboy loads, and it shoot great. The bore looks good with nice rifling but does have some pitting. The grips are pretty worn but solid. All serial numbers match with a cool number, one over a quarter million. This is a fantastic example of the Colt SAA in the great .38-40 that for sure road around the west!
