Description:
This firearm is a Spencer/Burnside carbine that was converted by Springfield in 1871. 1,109 of these conversions were made as a way to update and refurbish the 1865 Spencer Carbine that was used by the Union Army during the Civil War. When Springfield made these conversions, they did a few key things to the firearm that makes it apparent that it is a conversion and not a standard Spencer Rifle. The three major changes are the addition of a serial number on the barrel near the action, the use of two barrel bands to hold the forearm to the barrel and the lengthening of the barrel to 32.5 inches. 56-50
