Description:
26 inch octagon barrel with very good bore showing some scattered small areas of light pitting and strong rifling throughout. The barrel, forearm cap and buttplate have mostly toned to plum-brown patina. The frame shows a mottled brown gray case-hardened patina with the hammer and breechblock retaining some good original bright blue. The underside of the barrel is marked only “44”. Rifles stamped with only “44” are generally rimfires, but the breech block is center fire and the chamber is for a straight-walled case about 1-1/4” long overall. The smooth walnut buttstock and forearm remain in very good plus condition with most original finish. Sights include a folding combination front, the original sporting rear with another rear leaf sight added. Both rear sight elevators are missing. Period added sling swivels.
