MUSKET DATED 1846. 42” smoothbore barrel dated in small letters on the tang “1846” and proofed at the left breech with the tiny Harpers Ferry “V/ P/ EAGLE HEAD” Ordnance inspection stamps. Lock marked “HARPERS/FERRY/1852” and “EAGLE/US”. Absolutely all original including the lock with date undoubted arsenal replaced in the 1850s probably after return from service in the Mexican War. Thousands still in service in Confederate Regiments during the Civil War. Nice attic patina on metal with even dispersion of genuine salt and pepper. All markings visible but as usually seen on southern used Harpers Ferry arms somewhat worn as they were not deeply struck in the first place. Stock excellent with the original finish and a partially visible Ordnance cartouche. Original ramrod. Lock in working order and reasonably good bore. Very hard to find. SOLD Antique: Yes |
