Description:
This is a pre war model 70 manufactured in 1936. Given the low serial number, this gun had to be one of the initial run of rifles when the model change from 54 to 70 was announced. It is a standard grade with a 24” barrel chambered in “30GOVT’06”. It is equipped with a Lyman type 48 peep sight and hooded front sight. The rear sight dovetail has a “Marbles” filler wedge to protect the edges.
The bluing is 97% or better. There is some minor wear around the muzzle along with some minor scratches near the barrel sight location. The trigger guard and floor plate are starting to turn into a nice patina from handling in the field. The wood is in excellent condition with a few minor scratches and handling marks. The factory checkering is sharp with no obvious wear. The butt plate is the original steel configuration.
