Description:
Known examples of marked Burger and Brothers Civil War bowie knives sell for premium amounts. There are very few examples available to buy.
There are even fewer examples of the Burger and Brothers sword in any configuration available for comparison anywhere on the internet and I can find no others except this example available to purchase.  I am told the two outstanding features of a Burger and Brothers swords are the shape of the pommel cap and the very poor quality of casting present in the guard. I have been told by apparently knowledgable individuals that Burger and Brothers used discarded Boyle and Gamble parts to assemble the swords they "manufactured". There seems to be very limited information in general available on these swords anywhere though and I'm passing on what I have learned.
This sword has an unetched blade, measuring from the guard about 29 inches and overall 35 inches from tip of the blade to end of the pommel. The leather scabbard has separated just above the drag as seen in the pictures, this looks to be repairable... Please email questions or requests for different views you may want to see of this sword. The leather scabbard is top stitched. Thanks, Mark
