Description:
Another “ESTATE” firearm listing brought to you from Dust 2 Dollars who prides themselves on showing the complete gun in high quality pictures along with a detailed description for your consideration.

We offer you a “Damaged” James Purdey (London) 12 gauge Double Top Lever with Hammers, 30” Damascus Barreled Shotgun from 1880 - 1881.

From communications with Purdey we know that gun number 10946 was #2 of a pair of shotguns built for Sir William Eden in 1880 - 1881. Sir William Eden upon his father's death on 1873 became the 7th Baronet of West Auckland and 5th Baronet of Maryland.
Sir William was described as an eccentric and often foul-tempered man who once served as a colonel and local magistrate. He was also known as a daring traveler during his Grand Tour as well as a sportsman who served as Master of the Durham Hunt and gardener.
The right barrel shows a crack and some pin holes as pictured. The bores are bright with moderate areas of pitting in both two thirds of the way down. The action is tight and the hammers function just fine. The forearm has a small chip on the right side as pictured. It shows wear from 142 years of life but has no cracks. The butt stock shows one crack as clearly shown in the pictures. It also shows wear and two gouges at the top behind the lever as shown. All of the markings are shown in the pictures for your consideration.
