Serial #4,423, all matching numbers. All original & complete. There were 11,671 made from 1857-1860. The revolver has nice metal, brass, and markings. The barrel, cylinder, and hammer have an even natural patina on them. The brass frame and back strap have a nice mellow color to them with traces of original silver on the back strap. The original grips are fine throughout. The bore and action are both fine. The original Smith & Wesson Gutta-Percha Case is in nice untouched condition. The top of the case is embossed with a raised Smith & Wesson Revolver in the center and has a row of smaller S & W Revolvers along the top and bottom of it. It is also marked "MANUFACTURED ONLY BY SMITH & WESSON, SPRINGFIELD MASSACHUSETTS" on both sides of the gun in the middle. All four corners of the box have a fancy foil design on them. One foil design was colored in the 1800's. The bottom of the box has small S & W Revolvers going all around the edges. The green lining inside the box is all original with the bottom showing some natural wear on the bottom. There is an old period repair on the bottom right corner of the box. This repair is well done and hardly noticeable.
