Description:
I purchased this pistol in 1999 from a trusted San Diego armorer who had taken it in from a retired Marine on a trade. It has remained in my safe since- not fired after purchase. My notes indicate the pistol was used and modified by Sgt. Marlyn Bates USMC. He was a member of the USMC shooting team prior to 1999 and modified the pistol through the Crane Ordinance Depot, changed in 1992 to Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division. The pistol finish, barrel, magazine [Scovile] and grips are original to pistol. There is no rust or corrosion anywhere. The original finish is identified by the after finish application of a right/rear faint [typical of Rem/Rand] cross canons that show bright metal, the serial numbers show a burnish color, an R proof right side above trigger guard and left side FJA also bits of bright metal. Each applied after finish. The modifications include a “Micro” thick tight barrel bushing that needed a bushing wrench to remove; a Bo-Mar rear adjustable sight; a tall flat top forward sight; adjustable trigger; and the High Standard barrel machined to fit tight to the barrel bushing. The barrel is very bright with strong lands and grooves. The non-skid on the forward hand grip is merely tape. It comes with a Viet Nam era Mod. 1916 Bucheimer holster that looks 98%-like new. It’s hard to value this pistol because it is so rare with high quality target shooting modifications and signs of care.
