Description:
RARE, FINE 1938 Dated MAUSER BANNER POLICE LUGER Pistol WWII 9mm P.08 C&R

Pre-World War II Third Reich Sidearm

Here we present a German Mauser Banner Police Luger, made in 1938. This is only one of 275 of this variant that were made and dated in that year, making it the rarest date of the Mauser Banner Police pistols, which only numbered 23,840 altogether. The top of the chamber is dated 1938 and it has the standard Mauser Banner trademark on the first toggle. This is one of the earliest pistols to sport the Mauser Banner. The Eagle K markings are on the right side. There are numerous “Crown/U” commercial proof acceptance marks throughout. It is in an early commercial serial number range in the “V” block with the full serial number, “7168”, stamped on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel. The partial serial number “68” is stamped on various small parts.

In the years prior to the pistol being made, the Mauser Banner didn’t appear on the handgun. Instead, interestingly, since the terms of the Treaty of Versailles only allowed the German Simson & Company to produce any of the few small arms granted Germany after World War I, arms production was done secretly at Mauser, among others. Dates were left off of the barrel until about 1936 when Germany’s arms production and military activities started to be brought into the light.

The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Robust action. Bright, reflective bore. Nice grips have retained sharp checkering with little handling wear. All numbers match, including the magazine and interior grip panels. Sharp markings. A truly exceptional example of an early Mauser Banner Police pistol.
