London fine Damascus Barrels that ring true. . The first shotguns with their name Clabrough and brothers appeared in English guns from 1883 to 1894 And I come to believe this gun was made in 1883 with the ultralow serial number. The serial numbers restarted during their history and have researched the action as probably being produced by WC Scott before the Clabrough brothers produced their new action themselves. Most of the case coloring remains ,and is very tight,on face Rib extension doll head with thick mirror bores. I judge the finish at 85%( wood & metal) finish (see photos)bores Shiny with possible minor pitting with the wall thickness of .072 from when I could measure 1 inch down the Muzzle chokes are .694 left in .698 right side Chambers are two and three-quarter inch with slight pitting in the chambers barrels are straight dent free and shiny. Nice piece of walnut no cracks with minor handling marks and a outrageous original butt pad! Leg o Mutton-leather case is included! Could be in the field tomorrow; it's a true classic with great workmanship and history. Clabrough operated a gun company in San Francisco in the 1860s and also joined forces with his brothers in England in 1871 for a short period. In San Francisco he also met and worked with Samuel Hawkins. As Birmingham England's best gun manufacturer, they like others including Holland and Holland, did use gun parts from other manufacturers to produce a final gun with their name on it. The bar action was Probably sourced from a 1880s WC Scott. With serial number 174. This is a very early gun different and scarcer than the ones made later in the century.
