Description:
This is a very clean and very lightly-used Winchester Model 61 .22 rimfire pump-action repeating rifle.  The Winchester Model 61 was first introduced in 1932 and remained in production until 1963.  This hammerless pump-action repeater was an excellent weapon, very well-made, handsome, reliable, and accurate.  These qualities and the numerous model varieties offered made it quite the commercial success for Winchester and fueled the 31 year-long production run.  Offered in in .22 LR, .22 Magnum, and .22 WRF, the Model 61 featured a 24" inch round or octagon barrel, a rifled or smooth bore barrel, an under-barrel tubular magazine, open iron sights, and a two-piece smooth American Walnut pistol-grip stock set with a factory clear varnish finish.  This particular example is a 24" round barrel gun with a rifled bore chambered to fire .22 short, long, or long rifle cartridges.  Serial number 112569, it was manufactured in 1948 just a few years after WW2 ended.  As you can see from the pictures, it is in very good condition overall and is quite handsome.  The factory gloss blue finish rates 95%, with the only deductions coming from some minor handling marks and some blue finish wear visible where metal-to-metal contact occurs when the action is worked.  All of the factory markings are crisp and clear, and all of the pins and screws in the rifle are in excellent condition.  The bore in this Model 61 is mirror-bright and pristine, showing strong, sharp rifling throughout the barrel and with no visible imperfections.  The receiver remains just as it left the factory with no extra holes drilled and tapped for optics like so many we see from this period.  The factory stock set is beautiful and in excellent condition.  Both the buttstock and forearm ae clean and match each other perfectly in every way.  Neither piece of wood has any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage.  All of the stock hardware is in great shape, including the original factory-installed checkered blue steel buttplate.  The action on this Winchester is smooth, slick, and precise.  The bolt lock-up is excellent and the trigger breaks nicely with a light, consistent pull that does not stack-up.  All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order and the gun takes down into two halves and re-assembles easily.  If you have been looking for a very clean and lightly-used Winchester Model 61 that is still high-condition enough to be an investment but isn't so perfect that you would feel guilty shooting it on occasion, this 1948-production example would be the perfect choice.
