In the accompanying factory letter S&W historian Roy Jinks explains that the record is "only marked as being shipped to the Smith & Wesson office 1876. There is no invoice to list any information on the handgun. The production records do list several engraved guns being produced with engraving in this time frame. The fact that it was delivered to the Companies office would indicate it was a special revolver."
This revolver has Young's elaborate scrollwork on nearly the entire gun. Each side of the frame has a gold floral blossom inlay. Metal retains about 80% original blue finish turning brown. Hammer has good case color remaining. The engraving is crisp and sharp. Grips have a typical hairline stress crack and are in fine condition with attractive grain and color. This revolver would be a great center piece in anyone's Smith & Wesson collection.
